This is one of the most toxic notions I have seen while working as a developer and with development teams.

Often, developers would refer to their own code as โ€œgarbageโ€ or even worst, refer to other developersโ€™ code as such.

A work environment that ridicules the effort teammates put into their work, will create an atmosphere of fear instead of growth.

๐Ÿ”ด ๐‡๐จ๐ฐ ๐“๐จ ๐‘๐ฎ๐ข๐ง ๐š ๐“๐ž๐š๐ฆ

Even if developers donโ€™t say it to othersโ€™ faces, when being part of this conversation, one can assume the same things are being told about them behind their backโ€ฆ

Developers take much more time than โ€œnecessaryโ€ to achieve a working product because they were so afraid of their teammatesโ€™ feedback.

Developers will avoid asking questions because the appearance of being โ€œsmartโ€ is more important than learning.

In the long run, this will completely stagnate entire teams, and will probably push people to find another job.

๐ŸŸข ๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐–๐ž ๐’๐ก๐จ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฆ๐จ๐ญ๐ž

Promote a growth mindset. Much more important than being right in the short term, is to keep learning in the long run.

Today, no one developer can achieve greatness (no matter how talented or smart they are) โ€” it takes the cooperation of entire teams and sometimes thousands of developers.

Thus, it is much more important to promote โ€œtogethernessโ€. To promote an atmosphere of asking questions, not knowing, solving stuff together, and advising each other.

Happy coding
